Reflections on YogaKoh's 2024 Bali 200hr YTT

One month ago, YogaKoh’s Sea-to-Sky 200hr teacher training produced six phenomenal graduates. This once-in-a-lifetime experience advanced our students’ passion for yoga and guided them in finding a deeper connection with themselves, who they are, and who they strive to become.

Throughout June, our students and teachers traveled Bali, exploring the rich culture, spirituality, and yogi philosophy that both Canggu and Ubud embody. In furthering their yoga education and physical practices, we were proud to watch the evolution of these graduates as they found their individual voices as teachers.

While each of our graduates’ experiences was unique, when asked to reflect on their transformations, they all had one thing in common: they discovered a new confidence in themselves.

“One of the biggest things I have learned is to simply be unapologetically me. I am usually so conscious about fitting in that I forget the beauty in the courage that comes from standing out. A quote that really stuck with me from our learnings was: ‘Your playing small does not serve the world. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.’ - Nelson Mandela” – Phoebe

“This experience helped me to realize that I am where I need to be and exactly who I need to be.” – Carissa

“I got snippets of the feelings of acceptance and acknowledgment of my spirit. I think a little more time is needed to truly understand how my Bali TT experience has transformed my life. One thing I do know is that it has.” – Leo

Although rewarding, this experience was not easy. Mentally and physically, the training pushed students to dig deep and break through any challenges they faced – a pose, a concept, or a battle within their own minds.

“I haven't studied this hard since I graduated from school more than 20 years ago. I just recovered from a big health issue, so I needed to put more effort into this training. The preparation for the final exam was a big challenge for me, and while sometimes I felt the pressure weighing on my shoulders, there was always support and love from the group.” – May

“My greatest hardship was navigating my way through what my expectations were for the trip and what ended up being my reality. Disengaging from what I expected and focusing on what ended up being a more inward journey of self-love was initially a challenge.” – Leo

“The last four weeks have challenged me to redefine what a yoga teacher can be and encouraged me to think about what my unique, personal offering can be in this space.” – Phoebe

With all battles, however, come great triumphs. This month was filled with valuable learning and growth in their yoga practices, and in their personal lives. Be it the people, the philosophical lessons, or the everyday practice, our Bali YTT graduates walked away with memories and friendships sure to last forever.

“The most valuable aspect of the training for me was new vinyasa yoga development. This has opened a huge portal of possibility for me, and I am keen to explore everything that is available to create. I made some very close friendships on the training and love the continued sharing and giving that these relationships bring into my life.” – Leo

“I am glad I have completed this yoga journey with professional teachers and classmates who are full of love. Not only have I learned from my teachers, but from my peers as well. It made me think about what Carol Burnett said, ‘when you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go.’” – May

“The most memorable thing about training for me was the people. I loved everyone who I was able to share this experience with and am so thankful for the laughs, the tears, the stories, and the many hours spent doing yoga together. So many memories to last me a lifetime!” – Carissa

While our 200hr YTT was packed with studying, practicing, and hard work, this month was nothing short of inspirational. Each student and teacher came to Bali with unique backgrounds and experiences to share with the group, transforming this teacher training into a beneficial melting pot of knowledge. And as each person brought something different into the training, everyone left with something new.

“My biggest takeaway from this experience is that it is so important to listen to your intuition. It’s so important to be able to trust in yourself and I think amazing things can happen when you listen to yourself.” – Carissa

“I am not as broken and damaged as I led myself to believe. Without my phone, I shifted my focus from my outer world to my inner world, and in doing so I had the opportunity to just see what messages and posts I was making to my internal self. I am truly grateful for this gift of understanding.” – Leo

“Being inspired by all my peers and teachers, I want to carry them and their teachings with me into the next stage of my journey. Knowing that Atha yoga anuśāsanam (yoga is now), and there is no time like the present, I am excited to build on the knowledge and confidence I have discovered here and dive completely and fearlessly into the start of my next adventure as a yoga teacher.” – Phoebe

From the beautiful beaches and sunsets in Canggu, to the serenity and lush greenery in Ubud, our June 200hr YTT in Bali was a dream. Through profound moments of hardship, rewarding breakthroughs came to life – and our students were forced to trust themselves and the beauty of the training process.

This experience in Bali formed the most genuine friendships and heartfelt memories, and shaped our graduates into brilliant teachers ready to share their gifts with the yoga community. We are beyond proud of the transformation of these new teachers and express our deepest gratitude to our graduates for allowing us to experience their journey alongside them. We can’t wait to see where their next adventures take them!

“YogaKoh really helped me to realize that if I am to authentically share my message through yoga, I must both trust in my ability and not be afraid to let my light shine, in the hope that it inspires others to do the same. At its heart, yoga is a personal heartfelt connection with yourself and those around you.” – Phoebe

 Keep practicing!
